Ideal solar eclipse glasses for 12th August

These solar eclipse glasses seem ideal for the upcoming eclipse on 12 August. It's hard to forget the date, as it's even printed on the side of the glasses. The pack contains 10 pairs, making them great for sharing with family and friends. Looking through them indoors or in normal daylight, you can barely see anything at all, which is reassuring as it demonstrates how effectively they block ambient light. The glasses carry both ISO 12312-2 certification and CE markings, which are important safety credentials for solar viewing.

I cautiously tested them by viewing the Sun, and while you can clearly see its shape, the light is not glaring or uncomfortable. The Sun appears as a sharp, well-defined disc against a dark background. There was no discomfort during use, and the filters were free from scratches or damage. Although made from cardboard, the glasses feel reasonably robust and should easily withstand several uses. They are also comfortable to wear, even over prescription glasses. A nice touch is the QR code printed on each pair. Scanning it takes you to a verification page displaying the serial number, batch details, manufacturer information, use-by date, and authenticity status. The supplier also appears on the American Astronomical Society's list of reputable manufacturers of safe solar viewers and filters, which is one of the most respected eclipse safety references available. Overall, all the signs point to these being genuine, well-made eclipse glasses. The combination of certification, verification features, and a comfortable viewing experience gives me confidence that they will safely protect our eyes while providing a clear view of the eclipse.

Great value for a pack of 6

Great value for a pack of 6. I love that they have the date on them so we don't forget! They are well made and sturdy, and look much more robust than the old ones I have saved. They work really well and we can't wait to use them this August. These are a great keepsake

Good condition and ready for the eclipse

The cardboard glasses come as a pack of 10 in a nice strong box, and they all arrived in good condition. The glasses seem completely fine, with no noticeable defects to the lenses or the frames.

I tried a pair on and the sky looks totally black apart from the sun, which shows up clearly as a circle. I think these will work well for watching the eclipse when the time comes. Reasonable price for a pack of 10, them seem good quality.

How to view safely

Certified — but only if you use them right

  1. 01

    Inspect before every use

Hold a pair up to a bright lamp. If you see pinholes, scratches or tears, do not use that pair — grab another from your pack.

  2. 02

    Put them on first

With the sun out of view, put the glasses on. They fit comfortably over most prescription frames.

  3. 03

    Then look up

Now turn to the sun. After viewing, turn away before removing them. Supervise children at all times.

Do

  • Use only undamaged, certified glasses
  • Store flat, away from heat and moisture
  • Scan the QR code to confirm authenticity

Don't

  • Look through cameras, binoculars or telescopes
  • Use torn, scratched or punctured glasses
  • Use ordinary sunglasses as a substitute

Questions, answered

Are these actually safe for looking at the sun?

Yes. Every pair is certified to EN ISO 12312-2:2015 and carries CE Category II marking under Notified Body 0068. The filter blocks 100% of UVA/UVB and 99.999% of visible light. Always inspect a pair before use and follow the safety steps above.

What is the difference between the designs?

Only the printed artwork and the name. The certified lens, the card frame, the fit and the price are identical on every design — so choose purely on looks. You can switch design at any point without losing your selected pack size.

When is the eclipse, and will these arrive in time?

The total solar eclipse takes place on 2 August 2027. See our 2027 eclipse guide for visibility and browse the 2027 collection for glasses. Check product availability and the delivery estimate for your address at checkout. Order ahead when preparing for a group or event.

Which pack size should I get?

A single pair is fine for one viewer. For families or groups the 6-pack is the popular choice; the 10-pack is our best value per pair. Schools and events usually take the 50- or 100-pack — see wholesale for larger runs.

Do they fit over prescription glasses?

Yes. The frame has a wide temple cut-out and sits comfortably over most prescription frames.

What is your returns policy?

Unopened packs can be returned within 30 days for a full refund. For safety reasons we cannot accept opened single pairs unless faulty — if anything is wrong, contact us and we will make it right.
