Where to watch the 2026 total solar eclipse in Ibiza
Ibiza is inside the 2026 path of totality, but the geometry is severe: the Sun is barely 3 degrees above the sea when the corona appears, and it sets less than twenty minutes later. This is a sea-horizon eclipse — magnificent if the air is clear, lost entirely if it is not.
Below: Ibiza's exact timings, why only a true west-facing sea view will do, an honest assessment of the haze risk at this altitude, and which side of the island to be on.
La sequenza temporale
Quando avviene l’eclissi
Totality is centred on ~20:33 CEST with the Sun only about 3° above the west-northwest horizon, so an open low sightline in that direction matters more than anything else. The Sun sets shortly after, around 20:52.
Dove posizionarsi
I migliori posti per osservare
Cap des Falcó / west coast headlands
Headland · due westThe south-western capes look straight out over open water in the right direction, with no land beyond to raise the horizon. On an island where a few degrees decide everything, an unbroken sea horizon is the whole strategy.
DirectionsCala Comte (Cala Conta)
Beach · sunset-famousIbiza's best-known sunset beach, west-facing over islets and open sea. Its reputation is precisely because the western horizon is clean — which is exactly what this eclipse needs. Expect it to be extremely busy.
DirectionsSant Antoni de Portmany waterfront
Bay · accessibleThe bay at Sant Antoni faces west and is the most accessible option, with transport and facilities. Slightly longer totality than Ibiza town, and a clear outlook across the bay.
DirectionsPunta de sa Torre / Santa Eulària coast
East coast · longer totalityThe north-east of the island sits closer to the centre of the path and gets a slightly longer totality — but an east-coast location must have a clear view over land to the west, which is harder to find. Weigh duration against sightline.
DirectionsAny genuine west-facing sea view
The rule that mattersAt roughly 3 degrees altitude there is no margin at all. A hill with a village between you and the west is useless; a modest beach with open ocean is perfect. This single factor outweighs every other consideration on the island.
DirectionsCheck the official regional eclipse pages and local council announcements closer to the date — many towns on the path are organising designated viewing sites with capacity limits.

Le previsioni meteo
Il cielo sarà sereno?
Mid-August in Ibiza is reliably dry and rain is very unlikely.
But rain is not the question here. With the Sun at about 3 degrees, the only thing that matters is whether the western sea horizon is free of haze and distant cloud.
Marine haze routinely sits in exactly that band of sky.
There is no inland fallback on an island this size — your mitigation is choosing a genuine west-facing coastal spot and checking the horizon the evening before.
