Below: Braga's exact timings, the hilltop sanctuaries that make natural viewpoints, why 98.8% still is not totality, and how short the trip to the path really is.
La sequenza temporale
Quando avviene l’eclissi
The partial eclipse runs from about 18:34 to 20:24 WEST, with maximum coverage of 98.8% at around 19:31. The whole eclipse finishes before sunset at 20:37 WEST, so you are not racing the horizon here.

Elevated · UNESCO sanctuaryThe baroque stairway sanctuary above Braga gives real elevation and a long westward view over the city and the Minho — the obvious and most beautiful choice.
Monte Sameiro
Elevated · highest local pointThe sanctuary above Bom Jesus is higher still, with panoramic views across the whole of the Minho toward the coast.
Citânia de Briteiros
Elevated · archaeologicalThe hilltop settlement gives open views and an extraordinary historical setting for the event.
Open ground west toward Barcelos
Rural · flatMoving west out of the hills gives a clearer low sightline toward the setting Sun.
East to the path of totality
The real thingThe path clips north-eastern Portugal around Bragança and continues into Spain. From Braga that is a few hours east — and at 98.8%, you are close enough that making the trip is the obvious call.
Local astronomy societies and science centres often organise safe public viewing with filtered telescopes — worth checking closer to the date.

Le previsioni meteo
Il cielo sarà sereno?
Braga gets close to 99% coverage with the Sun 11° up, and the Minho's hills give easy access to elevated viewpoints.
Northern Portugal can hold evening cloud, particularly near the coast.
And being this close to the path is a strong argument for travelling the last stretch.

La tua lista di controllo per il giorno dell’eclissi
- Certified ISO 12312-2 / CE eclipse glasses — one pair per person
- Glasses stay ON for the entire eclipse — there is no safe moment here
- A reasonable view west — the Sun is ~11° up, so gaps in cloud are enough
- Arrive before 18:34 to catch first contact
- Check the cloud forecast in the final 48 hours
- Never look through a camera, phone or binoculars without a proper solar filter
- Pinhole projection is a safe way for groups to watch together
- If you want totality, it is northern Spain — not here
