Le déroulé
Quand l'éclipse a lieu
The partial eclipse runs from about 18:34 to 20:25 WEST, with maximum coverage of 98.2% at around 19:31. The whole eclipse finishes before sunset at 20:37 WEST, so you are not racing the horizon here.

Les meilleurs endroits pour observer
Jardim do Morro / Vila Nova de Gaia
Elevated · classicThe garden above the Dom Luís bridge gives the definitive view over the city and river, with an open western outlook toward the sea.
Foz do Douro
Coast · river mouthWhere the Douro meets the ocean, the seafront gives a completely unobstructed western sightline — the cleanest geometry in the city.
Miradouro da Serra do Pilar
Elevated · UNESCOThe monastery viewpoint gives height over the Douro gorge and a long view west.
Matosinhos and the northern beaches
Beach · openLong open beaches north of the river mouth with room to spread out and clear ocean views.
North-east to the path of totality
The real thingThe path edge clips north-eastern Portugal near Bragança and runs on into Spain. From Porto you can reach genuine totality in a few hours — at 98%, that trip is absolutely worth making.
Local astronomy societies and science centres often organise safe public viewing with filtered telescopes — worth checking closer to the date.

La météo
Le ciel sera-t-il dégagé ?
Porto sees among the deepest coverage in Portugal with the Sun a workable 11° up, and the Atlantic gives an open western horizon.
The coastal nortada can bring low evening cloud even on fine days.
Inland is often clearer — worth knowing as a fallback.

Votre checklist pour le jour de l'éclipse
- Certified ISO 12312-2 / CE eclipse glasses — one pair per person
- Glasses stay ON for the entire eclipse — there is no safe moment here
- A reasonable view west — the Sun is ~11° up, so gaps in cloud are enough
- Arrive before 18:34 to catch first contact
- Check the cloud forecast in the final 48 hours
- Never look through a camera, phone or binoculars without a proper solar filter
- Pinhole projection is a safe way for groups to watch together
- If you want totality, it is northern Spain — not here
