Below: Genoa's exact timings, why the sea horizon matters more than height, the coastal viewpoints, and the safety rule throughout.
Le déroulé
Quand l'éclipse a lieu
The partial eclipse runs from about 19:29 to 21:12 CEST, with maximum coverage of 93.5% at around 20:22. The Sun sets at 20:34 CEST, during the eclipse — so the later stages happen below the horizon and an open west-northwest view is essential.
Où s'installer
Les meilleurs endroits pour observer
Spianata Castelletto
Elevated · classic terraceThe belvedere above the old town gives Genoa's best-known view over the rooftops and harbour to the open sea — height plus a clean western outlook.
Corso Italia seafront
Coast · openThe long seafront promenade faces open water with nothing in the way — the simplest reliable sightline in the city.
Righi funicular viewpoints
Elevated · above cityThe heights reached by the funicular lift you well above the harbour haze for the widest view.
Boccadasse and the eastern shore
Coast · scenicThe old fishing quarter looks back west along the coastline, giving a picturesque foreground with an open sea horizon behind.
West along the coast toward Savona
Coast · slightly deeperMoving west along the Ligurian coast increases coverage slightly — Savona and Sanremo see a little more of the Sun covered, with the same open sea horizon.
Local astronomy societies and science centres often organise safe public viewing with filtered telescopes — worth checking closer to the date.

La météo
Le ciel sera-t-il dégagé ?
The Ligurian coast is usually clear in August, and the sea gives a genuinely flat, open horizon to the south-west — the best geometry in northern Italy.
At ~1.5° altitude there is almost no margin.
Low haze over the water is the main threat, and the coastal hills can block the view from inland.
