The meadow beneath the Alcázar looks out along the valley where the Eresma and Clamores meet, with the fortress above. It gives open sky to the west without the old town's buildings in the way — the best pairing of scenery and sightline.

The paths on the far side of the valley give the postcard view back toward the Alcázar. Superb for photography with the eclipsed Sun in frame — but check which way you will actually be facing, because the classic composition looks east, not west.

Just north-west of Segovia the land opens into bare plateau with the city on the skyline behind you. This is where to go if you want the low Sun unobstructed and are willing to give up the monuments in the foreground.

Segovia sits well off the central line and gets appreciably less totality than cities to the north-west. An hour toward Valladolid or Medina del Campo buys a significantly longer total phase.
